When this service may be required

An indoor air quality or mould investigation may be appropriate when building occupants report persistent odours, irritation, respiratory symptoms, discomfort or concerns about the condition of an indoor environment.

Investigations are also commonly undertaken following water leaks, flooding, moisture intrusion, visible mould growth, building defects or prolonged periods of high humidity.

AusCOH can also assist where the cause of an indoor environmental concern is unclear and an independent assessment is needed to determine what may be contributing to the problem.

How the assessment works

Every indoor air quality investigation is tailored to the building and the concerns being reported.

AusCOH will typically begin by reviewing the history of the building, reported concerns, previous water damage and any known ventilation or maintenance issues. A site inspection is then undertaken to identify potential contaminant sources, moisture problems, ventilation issues and other factors that may affect the indoor environment.

Depending on the circumstances, the investigation may include measurements of temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide, airborne particles or other contaminants, together with targeted mould or moisture assessment where appropriate.

The findings are considered collectively to identify likely contributing factors and provide practical recommendations for managing the issue.
