When these services may be required
Specialised workplace assessments may be required when a health or exposure concern falls outside typical occupational hygiene monitoring services, such as dust or noise, or where a specific workplace condition, task, substance or source requires targeted investigation.
These assessments can help organisations respond to worker concerns, investigate unusual or emerging hazards, verify the effectiveness of existing controls, support compliance requirements, or obtain independent advice where the level of risk is uncertain.

Lighting Assessment
Measurement and assessment of workplace lighting conditions, including general illuminance, task lighting, lighting uniformity and areas of glare or shadow. Assessments can help identify whether lighting is suitable for the work being performed and provide practical recommendations to improve visibility, comfort and safety.
Respirator Fit Testing
RESP-FIT accredited fit testing for workers who are required to wear tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment, such as reusable or disposable respirators. Fit testing helps confirm that the selected respirator is suitable for the individual wearer and can form an important part of an effective respiratory protection program.
AusCOH can also provide practical advice regarding respirator selection, fit-testing requirements and factors that may affect the effectiveness of respiratory protection.
Heat Stress Assessments
Assessment of workplace heat exposure where hot environments, physical work, protective clothing or extended exposure periods may place workers at risk of heat strain. AusCOH considers environmental conditions, work demands, clothing, exposure duration, work-rest arrangements and existing controls to help identify practical strategies for managing heat-related risk.
Clandestine Drug Laboratory Assessments
Inspection, sampling and occupational hygiene advice for residential, commercial or other properties where contamination associated with suspected former clandestine drug-production activities may be present.
Assessments are tailored to the history and condition of the property and may include targeted surface sampling to help determine whether contamination is present and the extent of any affected areas. Where required, AusCOH can also provide recommendations regarding remediation and follow-up assessment.
RF & EMF Assessments
Measurement and evaluation of radiofrequency and electromagnetic-field exposure associated with relevant workplace equipment, installations and tasks. Assessments can help determine the level and extent of exposure, identify areas requiring additional controls and provide clear guidance for the safe management of RF and EMF sources.
Other Occupational Hygiene Concerns
Not every workplace health concern fits neatly into a standard assessment category. AusCOH can develop tailored investigation and monitoring strategies for unusual processes, emerging hazards, specific contaminants or workplace concerns where the cause or level of risk may not initially be clear.
This may involve reviewing work practices and available information, undertaking workplace observations, identifying potential exposure pathways and developing a practical assessment approach suited to the specific situation.
How the assessment works
The assessment approach is tailored to the specific workplace concern, hazard or service required.
AusCOH will first discuss the issue with you to understand the workplace, the activities involved and the information needed from the assessment. Depending on the service, this may be followed by a site inspection, direct measurements, sampling, worker consultation or review of relevant workplace information.
The results are then evaluated against applicable standards, guidelines and occupational hygiene principles, with findings presented in a clear and practical format.
Where improvements are identified, AusCOH provides recommendations that are proportionate to the level of risk and suited to the way the work is actually carried out.
